How to Twitter and get Followers

I understand this topic has been discussed over and over again. There is probably very little you can’t find on other blogs. I also don’t claim to be a “social media expert” as so many do. I just want to help new people understand how twitter works and how you can make the most out of your twitter experience. I want to show you the tools I use, as well as how I build friendships on twitter.
Twitter Tools
TweetDeck - Probably the best twitter client for your desktop. It allows you to take control of your twitter feed by having different groups. The groups are helpful when you start to follow more and more people. Another key feature is the search filter. With it you can follow topics that interest you, and find new users to follow.
TweetBurner - If you post a lot of links into twitter. You want to be able to follow how many people click on it, and when. This is the ultimate tool to do this with. At the writing of this article however, they are having some problems with users signing up, but they still show you how many clicks your links are getting.
Twitter Grader - A interesting tool that calculates a score for you based on number of followers, numbers you follow, and number of tweets. Then you can compare yourself to other twitter users in your area. I find this tool to be a nice way to find other twitter users around your area.
Quitter - This tool follows your followers. Lets you know when someone stops following you, and what your last tweet was before they stopped. Can be helpful to see if your doing/saying something a lot of people don’t agree with.
Friend or Follow - Here you can type in your twitter name. In return they will tell you who are your friends, who are just following you, or who you are just following. Can be used to weed out people that you don’t need to have on your friend list.
For a list of almost every twitter app there is on the market. Go to: Mashable.com
Social Twitter
# - This tool is underused on twitter in my humble opinion. When you are writing a twitter with a link to a video, do #video, or a link to something funny do #funny. The # is what twitter uses to group similar tweets together. I use this as much as possible, because I know there are people out there listening to #video with twitter search. Since they are watching it, they will see my post and possibly find it interesting, in return following me.
RT - You have probably seen people write this, or Re-Tweet. This is a very popular thing to do on twitter. It helps people with links or message get seen by a bigger group of people. So if you RT @USERNAME, there is a bigger chance that this user will do the same back to you if you post something if value. This propels your name to a new group of users, that in return might follow you because of the link.
#FollowFriday - A fun community tool that people use to let their followers know about people they find funny, cool, whatever. If you work hard and are continually submitting valuable information, its likely that people will include you on their #FollowFriday. So in return, if you find someone interesting, do a #FollowFriday for them as well.
Ask Questions - Ask your followers questions. Get them to think about topic. Basically get a back and forth exchange going.
Share - Share information with your followers. Try to give them valuable resources, or tricks of the trade.
Reply - Try to do a @ reply as much as possible. If someone is asking for information and you know the anwser, reply and help them out. This is the best way to get others to notice you.

What Others Say About Good Keywords
"Early on, traffic to our site was sporadic. We'd have 1,000 visitors one day and 50 the next. We needed a way to get steady traffic, every day. I looked at other sites and noted their traffic, using a free software package from goodkeywords.com. That software enabled me to look at my competition and measure the popularity of their sites"
Richard Haberkern (an engineer and cameraman in the sports broadcasting and filmmaking industries) quoted in LA Times (LEARNING CURVE; Low-Cost Resources Developed Sales at Cameraman's Web Site The Los Angeles Times; Los Angeles, Calif.; Jun 25, 2001; KAREN E. KLEIN;)
"I'm not easily impressed with promotion software, but this one's a keeper."
Danny Sullivan in the subscriber area of Search Engine Watch
"First, get yourself a copy of Good Keywords (from http://goodkeywords.com). This free software is my crystal ball into the world of desirable online products. It queries a number of popular search engines and in many cases it will tell me exactly what I should be selling online"

Practicing Optimization Habits as You Blog

For several years, an Internet marketing field called search engine optimization has been growing in influence. Abbreviated as SEO, search engine optimization involves writing and design skills that make a Web site (blog or nonblog) higher in search results listings than a nonoptimized site. Search engines (such as Google, Yahoo!, or MSN Search) look for certain qualities and site characteristics, and use these cues to determine how good a site is, how closely it matches a searcher's keywords, and how it should appear on a result page for those keywords. Savvy Webmasters improve their search-engine visibility by optimizing their pages according to principles that tend to improve search ranking. There is no reason why bloggers should not do the same thing.

Keep your pages short
Because blogs tend to feature short bursts of content, with each entry on its own page, they are optimized for optimization, so to speak. Blogs are perfect for SEO because one of the most important optimization principles is to keep your pages short and highly topical. So, if you write a blog about folk music, you might post an entry about the Celtic band Filska; as long as that entry doesn't veer off-topic, you end up with a naturally optimized Web page.

Keep your pages on-topic
It is important to stay on-topic with each entry. Posting a long entry about Filska that also discusses other Celtic bands broadens the page's focus and dulls its optimization. Naturally, you want to feel free to write naturally in your blog. Optimization principles shouldn't inhibit your style. But for the most part, good optimization is good for your visitors, not just good for your traffic. People don't have a lot of time, and they like to land on Web pages that are clearly about one thing. That goes for blog entry pages as much as for any other type of page.

Be mindful of keywords
Search engines match Web pages to keywords people search for. If you want better visibility in search engines, use the keywords you think your readers would be searching with. Don't use them arbitrarily or indiscriminately; doing so is called keyword stuffing or keyword spam and is easily detected by search engines. Sites are penalized in search listings for trying to game the system. The trick here is to write your entries to the point, so that they are clearly topical to your readers and to the search engines.

Make your entry titles count
It is amazing how many entry titles have nothing to do with the entry. This point is an optimization downfall for many bloggers. A scathing criticism of a public figure might be titled "It's an outrage!" and never mention the public figure's name. An entry about that Celtic band Filska might be titled "The most beautiful fiddle music I ever heard," without relating the band's name. Blogs are famously informal and personal, but you miss an important chance to optimize your entry pages by not putting key topical words in your titles. And your readers might thank you for being clearer in your headings, too.

Temporary Vista Files

Are you one of the many users now using a Windows Vista computer? If you said yes, then answer me this: do you use Internet Explorer 7 as your main Web browser? If so, are you having a little trouble figuring out how to delete all your temporary Internet files? We have preached on this topic before for Windows XP and it's just as important with Vista. (Just in case you're not sure, temporary Internet files are files used by your computer to save certain information about the Web sites you visit. If you delete them on a regular basis, it will drastically improve your computer's overall performance). Alright, with all of that said, let's find out how you can do this with IE 7 in Vista!

There are two different ways you can do this. First, in Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options and under the Browsing History section, click on Delete. Then beside the Temporary Internet Files option, click the Delete Files button. Click Yes to confirm and the files will then be deleted. The second option is to click on the Start button and type "disk" into the search box below it. In the results, find Disk Cleanup and click on it. Choose the drive you want to clean out and then click OK. Next, checkmark the box next to Temporary Internet Files, click OK and then click on the Delete Files button.

On a side note, another way you can get rid of your temporary Internet files is to use the CCleaner program, but I would recommend using the other methods first. Also, if you would like to view the files you're deleting before you actually go through with it, you can do so by clicking on the View Files option first, before going on to delete them. That way, you can see what you're actually getting rid of and save anything you need to beforehand. Either way, this is something you should do regularly so that your computer will work at its best. Now, go on and give it a try!

Coolest gaget on the internet

Gaming world is expanding at such a frantic pace that it is making more and more youngsters obese, blessed with sight defects and that geeky look that freaks the hell out of the normal folk. Despite all that, there is nothing stopping the virtual take over of the real mind with gaming consoles spreading the madness to a point where we have international contests with people jumping over the remotes! The iZ3D limited edition custom painted LCD monitors
take that experience a step further by making bringing the action to life with 3D effects.
Priced at around $750 a piece, the custom painted LCD screens come in 9 different themes and you will love each every one of them. For the 3D effects though, you will have to wear the 3D glasses and that is pretty much expected. You may not be playing forever with the glasses on, but the odd experience will give you loads of fun. It is indeed ‘Time to Play the Game’.s!

Learning How to Make Money Blogging

There are two major types of business models that
entrepreneurs use to make money blogging. The first
and most common way to turn a blog into a profit
making machine is to sell advertising to different
companies and brands who want to reach that blog's
readers. The second kind of money making blog is one
that helps a single brand improve its image by creating
positive associations between the blog and the product
in the mind of consumers. Both kinds of blogs can
make a lot of money, especially if the creator has a keen
mind for marketing.

If you are blogging with the goal of selling advertising,
there are two basic ways that you can go about
recruiting sponsors who want to put ads on your site;
you can let someone else do all of the legwork, or you
can do the work yourself and keep all of the revenue.
Within the first group, many people make money
blogging by selling space through Google's AdSense
program. The advantages of this program are numerous,
as it requires very little effort on the part of the blogger
or webmaster to begin raking in profits. However, most
people discover that they make less money through this
method than they had hoped that their blog would earn.

Selling advertising directly to companies who want to
put banner ads or sponsored links on your blog can take
quite a bit of time, but it is often fairly lucrative. If you
have a lot of contacts in industries that are related to the
topic of your blog, you may want to try to go this route.
People who have a strong background in sales and are
experienced at pitching proposals can make quite a bit
of money by renting blog space to interested companies.
The most serious problem with this model is that you
often have to build quite a sizable readership before you
can attract advertisers, which can mean that you have to
do several months of work before you start to make
money blogging.

As blogging becomes a more and more lucrative
business, a lot of established companies are considering
how they can get into the action. One way that
companies are capitalizing on the blog movement is by
having blogs that provide a kind of friendly face for
their corporation. Often, a company will employ an
established blogger to create a weblog designed
specifically to appeal to that company's customers and
to create positive associations with the brand in
consumers' minds. More than one writer who never
even dreamed that he or she could make money
blogging has been approached by a company and
offered quite a pretty penny for this kind of gig.
The Web..

The How Of Blogging

What about the how? Bloggers invest significant time in creating and updating their blogs, as well as driving traffic and retaining their audiences.

One in four bloggers spends ten hours or more blogging each week. The most influential bloggers are even more prolific. Using Technorati Index data, we analyzed the posting and tagging behaviors of bloggers according to their Technorati Authority. Over half of the Technorati top authority bloggers post five or more times per day, and they are twice as likely to tag their blog posts compared to other bloggers.

From their use of RSS feeds, video, photos, and mobile updates, bloggers are also tremendously sophisticated in leveraging the available tools to make their blogs more robust.

Bloggers employ a variety of technologies to attract visitors. Top audience-building strategies include: listing their blog on Technorati and Google, commenting or linking to other blogs, and tagging blog posts so that they are more easily searchable. All of this hard work has paid off — half of active blogs attract more than 1000 monthly visitors.

Bloggers are using tools on their blogs
Bloggers are also tremendously sophisticated in leveraging available tools to make their blogs more robust or easily updatable.

Tools Used on Blog

More than eight in ten have a commenting system, archived posts, and have built-in syndication. Others use video and photos on their blog, or update their blog via a mobile device. On average, bloggers use seven of the 13 tools listed.

Among those with widgets, the majority of bloggers use at least four widgets on their site and two-thirds would include a widget with an ad on their blog.

Among those blogs with RSS feeds, three in four support full-content feeds.

How bloggers attract visitors
Bloggers are savvy and resourceful in generating traffic.

How Bloggers Attract Visitors

Top traffic-building strategies include: listing their blogs on Technorati and Google, commenting on or linking to other blogs, participating in a blogroll or blog directory, and tagging blog posts so that they are more easily searchable. Active bloggers have learned a variety of techniques for attracting visitors to their blog, conducting an average of five different activities to attract visitors. 28% do at least seven activities.

Bloggers are also adept at linking to and from other sites — they have a median of 29 links from their blog to other web sites (with a mean of 3400), and a median of 30 links from other web sites to their blog (with a mean of 4800).

To build loyalty with readers, bloggers create events for their readership
In order to retain visitors to their blogs, sophisticated bloggers are creating readership events.

Have you ever worked with your readership to create an event, either online or in person? Type of blogger

Yes, online 13 14 11
Yes, both online and in person 24 17 13
No, I have not created an event with my readership 53 61 70

The majority of these events are in person, with one in five personal bloggers hosting an in-person event and one-third of corporate bloggers hosting an in-person event.

The vast majority of bloggers are tracking their site visitors and monthly pageviews
Only 5% of bloggers did not know how many monthly pageviews their blog received. All this hard work has paid off for active bloggers in terms of site visitors. Half of bloggers attract over 1000 unique visitors per month.

Tool Usage
Google Analytics is the most common tracking tool (used by 2/3 of bloggers)
Sitemeter and Statcounter used by one in five bloggers
42% use more than one service/provider for their analytics
Over 100 different tracking tools used

Attention: I'm Back- Hurricane hit Houston Hard

Happy to say Im back online after close to three weeks without no lights or water its been hell. The Hurricane hit us here in Houston very hard, trees were down all over the place. On streets on the roofs of houses on the telephone poles and the streets well you could not get through some of them for all the trees on the roads and some of the streets near the freeways looked like lakes thats how bad they were flooded. I had not seen such a Hurricane like this in years and hope never to see one again. I was miserable without any light, all we had were candles or flashlights or lanterns and did I ever miss my computer and t.v. We all had to get water from places that were donating soldiers rations and bottled water and ice and you were lucky if you could get some ice. I used a small ice chest and kept a few sodas and lunch meat in the chest and luckkkkkkky I was able to find some bread before it was all sold out, also got a few bags of dog food.. If you wanted a Hot cup of coffee youd better have a barbeque grill or propane stove or some kind of burner you could use to heat up your water for your coffee. We also had a curfew put into place and youd better not be on the streets after dark or you go to jail this was because we had alot of looting all over the city. But today finally after three weeks its finally over a little while ago we got the lights back on Hellaluia I never realized how much I missed the lights and my computer and the t.v But now Im back and its back to DOGCENTS and you all know after a Hurricane like this bad one their are alot of abandoned dogs suffering who need food and shelter and medicines, I have several dogs of my own and they also are not eating like they used to because I cant afford it right now altho they are not starving. I asked spca and paws for help but they barely have enough food for the dogs they have so many dogs were left there or their owners left town because of the hurricane and their homes were destroyed or damaged and they can no longer afford to take care of their dogs which is real sad but many lost their homes and have no place to keep their dogs. I myself have sustained damages a tree fell through the front room and there is a huge hole in the roof that I hope someone will help me repair. Fema I hope will help me out. BUt it will only help with certain things and I need help in order to buy some food for the dogs and get them in some type of shelters, and get them some medicines they also need, especially one that has a huge knot right next to his pee pee and that is also swolln as big as a large hot dog I mean its so swollen it looks like a large sausage so come on people dont be so cold hearted please I ask you to please give me a helping hand to save these poor helpless dogs who cannot speak for themselves . I give all I can give but I cannot do it alone I need your help and support what else can I say to you all to help us out besides imagine and picture what it looks like after a bad Hurricane all the destruction, all the large old trees knocked down to the earth like if they were toothpicks and picture all these little dogs with dazed cold eyes wandering around scrouncing for scraps of food to eat trembling with cold and shiverimg with fear, lost alone, until I find them and bring as many as I can home and I try to find them a home but like I said I need your help you can make a difference . I need you to open your hearts up and to have compassion . Help me to be able to continue to help them. Thank you and God Bless you all. Lilyruth

Google seeks New Browser, News must Read

Google Inc is challenging Microsoft Corp with its own Web browser that lets users run many applications that once worked only when installed on local PCs, executives said on Tuesday.
Google introduced a public trial version of its new browser software, Chrome, which is designed to handle not just text and graphics, but more complex computer programs.
Chrome, available in 43 languages in 100 countries at www.google.com/chrome, has been designed to download software and Web pages faster than existing browsers. It even allows users to keep working when one of its windows crashes.
This represents Google's long-anticipated head-on attack on Microsoft and its Internet Explorer, which has three-quarters of the Web-browsing market. Google has backed Mozilla Corp's Firefox browser, which holds about 18 percent of the market.
Google engineers and executives call Chrome a "fresh take on the browser," a 15-year-old technology that is supplanting 25-year-old desktop software as the basic way users interact with computers.
"You actually spend more time in your browser than you do in your car," said Brian Rakowski, group product manager for Google's browser project.
Chrome was seen by analysts as partly a defensive move due to Google's fear that the recently upgraded Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) could be used to lock out Google. Google's core business of Web search and related advertising depends on browsers.
A Microsoft executive said IE 8 gives users control over how and where they navigate, improves their day-to-day browsing experience, and keeps people safe from new security threats. Be Sure to Leave Your Comments! Source: Reuters
