Using Google to track swine flu fears

Using Google to track swine flu fears Celeste Biever, biomedical news Swine flu(H1N1) has dominated the headlines (ours included) for the last 10 days. Now that the virus seems less nasty than initially feared, the appetite of the public and media for other issues has returned. But how did our interest in swine flu compare with our interest in other scary health threats, such as bird flu in 2005, or with slow burn issues like cancer? And how does it compare with other big news stories? To get some idea, we asked Google Trends, a tool that lets you explore the number of searches that have been made for certain terms, relative to the total number of searches. The conclusion? While the swine flu outbreak has motivated large numbers of web users, Barack Obama is still more popular.
Searches for swine flu in recent days massively outnumber those for bird flus for bird flu's other popular names - avian flu and H5N1 - doesn't make a total anywhere near that for swine flu Swine flu also beats interest in the Bernard Madoff scandal, which peaked at the end of 2008 .And although interest in cancer is high and steady, it can't approach swine flu.To find a cultural event that generated more web searches you have to look to Barack Obama at the time of his election in 2008 and inauguration in January .Such comparisons provide a neat way to visualise and measure what people are really thinking about. But Google's data has useful applications as well. Last year researchers at the firm showed that search trends can acurately predict the number of flu cases in a country, they might even predict future economic activity too. Google has already started trying to track the spread swine flu in Mexico using its trends tool - should the World Health Organization be using the same method? How to get more traffic to your blog or website

No matter what kind of articles you write, whether they are for a blog, a web site, or for an article directory like Helium, there are some specific things that you can do in order to get your articles more views and more traffic. While there are some things that may be unique to each of these particular formats, here are some of the universal methods for driving traffic and views to your articles:
* SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. SEO refers to the process of writing an article or designing a web page that is "friendly" to search engines. For example, if you write an article about Humphrey Bogart, Google, Yahoo and the other search engines look for "Humphrey Bogart" to appear a certain number of times in your article. While each of the search engines operates a little bit differently as far as how they handle SEO, in general you will want to include your keywords with a density of between 1 percent and 4 percent. This means that, in a 400-word article on Humphrey Bogart, you would use "Humphrey Bogart" between 4 and 16 times. Learning about and using SEO techniques will get your articles more views and traffic.

* Build Incoming Links. When you link to an article from another web site, this increases the importance that the search engines assign to your page. By building incoming links to your article from other web sites you increase the priority of your article. When this happens, search engines are more likely to send web surfers to your article, creating more views and traffic for your articles.

* Use Social Bookmarking. Sites like Digg.com, Del.icio.us, and StumbleUpon.com are all designed so that web surfers can share sites that they have enjoyed with other web surfers. In some cases, you might be able to promote your own article through these sites. In other cases, you will need to try to convince your readers to "Digg" or "Stumble" your article.

* Promote your articles. Finally, you can get your articles more views and more traffic by talking about your article or articles. Mention them in relevant forums, or post a link to your articles in the comments of popular related blogs. If you have an e-mail newsletter with a strong subscriber base, promote your articles there, as well.

Many Internet writers prefer to focus on one of these methods exclusively, while other Internet writers choose to use many different forms of marketing for their articles. It may be, at the very least, trying several of these methods to see which will provide you with the most views and traffic.

How to Twitter and get Followers

I understand this topic has been discussed over and over again. There is probably very little you can’t find on other blogs. I also don’t claim to be a “social media expert” as so many do. I just want to help new people understand how twitter works and how you can make the most out of your twitter experience. I want to show you the tools I use, as well as how I build friendships on twitter.
Twitter Tools
TweetDeck - Probably the best twitter client for your desktop. It allows you to take control of your twitter feed by having different groups. The groups are helpful when you start to follow more and more people. Another key feature is the search filter. With it you can follow topics that interest you, and find new users to follow.
TweetBurner - If you post a lot of links into twitter. You want to be able to follow how many people click on it, and when. This is the ultimate tool to do this with. At the writing of this article however, they are having some problems with users signing up, but they still show you how many clicks your links are getting.
Twitter Grader - A interesting tool that calculates a score for you based on number of followers, numbers you follow, and number of tweets. Then you can compare yourself to other twitter users in your area. I find this tool to be a nice way to find other twitter users around your area.
Quitter - This tool follows your followers. Lets you know when someone stops following you, and what your last tweet was before they stopped. Can be helpful to see if your doing/saying something a lot of people don’t agree with.
Friend or Follow - Here you can type in your twitter name. In return they will tell you who are your friends, who are just following you, or who you are just following. Can be used to weed out people that you don’t need to have on your friend list.
For a list of almost every twitter app there is on the market. Go to: Mashable.com
Social Twitter
# - This tool is underused on twitter in my humble opinion. When you are writing a twitter with a link to a video, do #video, or a link to something funny do #funny. The # is what twitter uses to group similar tweets together. I use this as much as possible, because I know there are people out there listening to #video with twitter search. Since they are watching it, they will see my post and possibly find it interesting, in return following me.
RT - You have probably seen people write this, or Re-Tweet. This is a very popular thing to do on twitter. It helps people with links or message get seen by a bigger group of people. So if you RT @USERNAME, there is a bigger chance that this user will do the same back to you if you post something if value. This propels your name to a new group of users, that in return might follow you because of the link.
#FollowFriday - A fun community tool that people use to let their followers know about people they find funny, cool, whatever. If you work hard and are continually submitting valuable information, its likely that people will include you on their #FollowFriday. So in return, if you find someone interesting, do a #FollowFriday for them as well.
Ask Questions - Ask your followers questions. Get them to think about topic. Basically get a back and forth exchange going.
Share - Share information with your followers. Try to give them valuable resources, or tricks of the trade.
Reply - Try to do a @ reply as much as possible. If someone is asking for information and you know the anwser, reply and help them out. This is the best way to get others to notice you.

Three start-ups attack Twitter Search

New companies are emerging to address the deficiencies in Twitter Search I covered last week.
This isn't so easy. The challenge for anyone trying to fix Twitter Search is that the service is extremely good at showing you what's happening on Twitter at any moment. If you add a ranking algorithm to Twitter search results, you risk burying that value. On the other hand, without some form of relevancy indicator or ranking, Twitter Search can get so noisy as to be unusable.
Here are three companies that apply some form of ranking to Twitter search results.
The newest--scheduled to launch at noon on Monday--is Twazzup. It solves the relevancy problem first by not messing with raw time-sorted Twitter search results. Those go to the main column. What shows up around them makes this tool great.

Twazzup doesn't mess with Twitter's time-sorted results. But the related links and lists around the main display add a lot of utility.(Credit: Screenshot by Rafe Needleman/CNET)
First, you get a menu of related words and hashtags at the top of the results page. There's also an expandable "Popular Tweets" sidebar item that has the tweets on your keyword that are the most retweeted or linked to. There's also a list of "Trendmakers," people actively tweeting your keyword. And there are photos and popular links.
My preview of this product showed some performance hiccups, but the concept and presentation are very strong.
Tweefind gives you what looks like a standard Twitter Search (albeit in My Little Pony colors), but it layers a ranking algorithm into the display order.
Currently, it factors the number of followers and the number of retweets on an item in the ranking. Its results are better than the unfiltered Twitter Search, but I have the feeling, when looking at Tweefind results, that I might be missing items I'd like to see. That's the paradox with which all these tools have to deal. More on Mashable: Tweefind Applies Google Magic to Twitter Search.

Tweefind ranks results using a Google-like algorithm.(Credit: Screenshot by Rafe Needleman/CNET)
Finally, there's Twitalyzer Search. It shows you raw, time-ordered Twitter results but adds two relevancy numbers to each tweet in the results list: The Influence (I don't understand exactly how this is calculated) and the number of followers the tweet's author has. It helps you find the items from the people to which other Twitter users are paying attention, and since the search order isn't modified, you don't feel like you might be missing other items.

Twitalyzer Search adds Influence and Followers data to standard Twitter Search results.(Credit: Screenshot by Rafe Needleman/CNET)
I like Twazzup the most of these three products, since it presents a lot of useful information while maintaining the value of the raw Twitter search results. I do worry about the viability of all these experiments.
Twitter Search itself is going to get some sort of ranking technology eventually--possibly from one of these companies, possibly from Google or Microsoft--leaving the others stranded. Until then, try Twazzup. Source: Rafe Needleman - cnet news Be Sure to Leave Your Comments!

17 Year Old claims responsibility for letting loose the Twitter Worm

What kind of Punishment do you think he should get a fine? Jail time? Banned from the net? You tell us what you think? Speak what's on your mind?
A 17 Year old Mikkey Mooney has claimed responsibility letting loose the worm on Twitter. “I am the person who coded the XSS which then acted as a worm when it auto updated a users profile and status, which then infected other users who viewed their profile. I did this out of boredom, to be honest. I usually like to find vulnerabilities within websites and try not to cause too much damage, but start a worm or something to give the developers an insight on the problem and while doing so, promoting myself or my website.
I decided if I had a site that followed the same functionality and simplicity as one of the most known sites on the web at the time then it would receive a lot of hits. While playing around and getting the site developed I started adding more features and tried to part myself from Twitter, while still giving it’s still compact nature and simple use.
Only the sessions were encrypted and passwords were not played with, so it was not that harmful, but was still a matter of concern and the Twitter team was able to resolve that pretty fast."
Techstartups advice to all users: If your Twitter ID is compromise immediately change your password!

Protect your information or he'll take it away. Posted by techstarups

What Is Following? Friends of course and it looks like I have None

What is Following?following means your friends coming to see what you have posted on your blog and keeping updates on it. Maybe its because I placed this Follows gaget on my blog so late in time that I have no followers? If the friends that are on my BlogRoll sign up to follow me I would not feel so all alone and left out.. Why won't you follow me? Don't you like my BLog? IF you have any suggestions I'd like to hear your comments so tell me why don't I hae any followers? Im blogging about this in hpes that I may get some followers just take a minute or two and sign up to be my friend... THis is real good for your ranking also the more followers you hve the better. As you can see I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT BLOGGERS NEW GAGET THE FOLLOWERS BUTTON and this is to bad for me for as you can see I only have very very few followers and that is because I just found out about the gaget and just placed it on my blog and so I HOPE that being as Im far behind in followers that all MY FRIENDS Who VISIT DOTBLOGGER and who are in my bloglist WILL SIGN UP ON THE FOLLOWERS BUTTON for right now I feel so lonely without any followers in my gaget and I know that is my own fault for not checking up and seeing what new gagets BLOGGER has put up for us.......................................................
Do you have a favorite blog and want to let the author and readers know that you are a fan? Well now you can do that and more with the Blogger Following feature! You can even keep track of the blogs you follow via your Reading List on the Blogger dashboard.

How do I become a Follower of a blog?
There are several ways to become a follower of a blog. One of the easiest ways is to visit a blog that has added the Following widget and click on the "Follow" button under the "Followers" widget:
You'll then see a popup window with the options to either follow publicly or privately:
Select how you'd like to follow the blog, then click the "Follow this blog" button. It is that simple, you are now a follower of the blog! If you elected to follow the blog publicly, your profile picture will be displayed on the blog with a link to your Blogger profile (Note: The widget may not show all followers of the blog. If this is the case all followers will be linked from the widget). When you become a follower of a blog, the blog will also be added to your Reading List on your Blogger dashboard and this site will also show on your FriendConnect profile for all the sites you've joined using Friend Connect. Additionally, you can become a follower of any blog or URL (even if the blog doesn't have the Followers widget) by adding the blog to your Reading List on the dashboard.
FTP Blogs
If you join/follow an FTP blog from your dashboard or the Nav bar, the owner of the blog WON'T be informed that you followed the blog. However, if you join/follow normally (via the gadget) the owner WILL be informed that you followed the blog.
How to remove yourself from following a blog
The easiest way to remove yourself from following a blog is to visit the blog, and click "Settings" under the Following widget on the blog.
You will then see a pop-up window with your profile settings. Click the "Stop following this site" link and you will be removed from following the blog. If the blog doesn't have a Followers widget, you can still stop following the blog. To do so, go to the "Blogs I'm Following" tab under your Reading List on your dashboard.
Then click the blue "Manage" button. You will then see a list of all the blogs that you are following. To stop following a blog, click the "stop following" link next to the blog you want to stop following.
Lastly, following a blog will create a subscription to the blog in your Google Reader account.
What does Blocking a follower do?
When you Block a follower of your blog, the user will no longer appear in the Followers Gadget on your blog and will not see your blog in their Blogger Reading List. However, since your blog is public, the user can still use the other feed readers to subscribe to your blog, read your posts, and comment.
How to grow your audience with Following
The Followers widget is a great tool to help you grow your blog's audience. Readers often visit a blog and enjoy it but fail to return. With the followers widget you can get all readers to return and become a fan. We highly recommend that you write a post about your followers widget and encourage all readers to become a follower. Additionally you should put your followers widget at the top of your sidebar so more readers will notice it. Many readers ignore sidebar items so by writing a post about your followers widget and moving the widget to the top of your sidebar, you will inevitably grow your audience.

Did you know FaceBook had been sued for patent infringement?

For those of you who did not know this happened awhile back It's pretty much a rite of passage for any tech company these days, as you get larger and more recognized, some company that has an overly broad and probably obvious patent will sue you for patent infringement. For the company in question, the lawsuit is as much a publicity event as it is an attempt to squeeze revenue from an actual innovator. The latest example of this is with an Ohio company no one's heard of called Leader Technologies, who is suing Facebook for patent infringement, and was kind enough to send out a press release announcing this before Facebook even got to see the lawsuit. Clearly, this is a publicity stunt.
As for the patent itself, it basically describes the rather obvious process of associating a piece of data with multiple categories. It's almost surprising that the company is suing Facebook instead of Google. While I'm not a heavy Facebook user, I'm not sure where Facebook uses such a system. Google, however, has made widespread use of a similar idea with its Gmail "labels." The idea is that rather than sorting data into a specific folder or category, it can be associated with multiple categories. If that seems rather obvious and ridiculously broad, well, that's the patent system for you these days. If anyone knows the outcome of this to be sure to leave a comment and let us know if this was settled? Source: tech news

Ponzi Schemes multiply on YouTube

Ponzi Schemes Multiply On YouTube

Hugh Pickens writes
"While it's probably not true that P. T. Barnum was the originator of the saying 'there's a sucker born every minute,' the proliferation of nearly 23,000 Ponzi schemes on YouTube, with an astounding 59,192,963 views, proves that the sentiment is still alive and well. The videos usually don't ask for money directly, but send viewers to web sites where they are urged to sign up for the 'gifting program,' usually for fees ranging from $150 to $5,000. One of the videos recently added on YouTube featured Bible quotes, pictures of stacks of money and a testimonial from a man who said he not only got rich from cash gifting, but also found true happiness and lost 35 pounds. 'They make it seem like it's legal and an easy way to make money, but it's nothing more than a pyramid scheme,' says Better Business Bureau spokeswoman Alison Southwick. Some of the videos claim that because it's 'gifting,' it's somehow legal. 'They talk about "cash leveraging," whatever that means, and other vague marketing talk,' says Southwick, but the basic scheme is that participants are told to recruit more people who will put in more money. 'It's just money changing hands,' says Southwick, 'and it always goes to people at the top of the pyramid.' A spokesman for YouTube, which is owned by Google Inc., said the company doesn't comment on individual videos."Posted by Soulskill & REPOSTED by Me...Lilyruth

Why Twitter is So Useful

CLICK ON HERE TO FOLLOW http://twitter.com/lilruth
Twitter can be useful in lots of ways especially if you do not have a contact page or a way that someone can communicate with you right away if they want to ask you something. Twitter also can let you communicate with your favorite news caster or Movie star, many important and famous people use Twitter to keep in contact with their fans. There are singers, comedians even people who run our country are on Twitter and you can contact them if you wish to do so.
You can use Twitter to send out updates about the status of your blog and answer quick support and regular questions without opening up your email client and writing a new message for a simple question.
With more links appearing in search engines to the service, it will begin becoming easier to find other users and their updates, should they also be indexed. Not everyone will be indexed, and it could take time before you even see your account reach the first page of results for a more broad keyword found on your profile/account.
You can’t really compare Twitter to blogs when you look at them in this way - they are separate and were designed to be used for different purposes. You don’t have full control with Twitter and are limited on purpose, while you have much more freedom on your blog.
Why Pairing is Important
Think about your contact information on your blog. What if someone was unable to access this? They’d probably just dismiss the questions or comments that they were going to pose to you. They had no real method of contacting you so they had to go elsewhere, to another blog to express their thoughts.
A Twitter account can be referred to as another form of communication, much like emailing, instant messaging, or even calling someone. Leaving out a Twitter account (whenever you have one) form your blog is a costly mistake that should be avoided.
Recap
Use similar user names for your blog and your profile/Twitter page.
Link immensely to your Twitter profile from your blog to increase awareness.
Don’t hesitate to ask people to contact you through Twitter rather than other methods.
Use proper techniques to increase the ranking of your Twitter profile - include keywords in content, update often, and so on.
Don’t let your Twitter page go blank or without updates.

Blogs, Bloggers, Blogs

There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way that content is delivered or written.
Personal blogs
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read by anyone but them. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following. A type of personal blog is referred to as "microblogging," which is extremely detailed blogging as it seeks to capture a moment in time. Sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family and is much faster than e-mailing or writing. This form of social media lends to an online generation already too busy to keep in touch
Corporate blogs
A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs, either used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for mmarketing, branding, or public relations, purposes are called corporate blogs,
Question blogging
is a type of blog that answers questions. Questions can be submitted in the form of a submittal form, or through email or other means such as telephone or VOIP. Qlogs can be used to display shownotes from podcasts or the means of conveying information through the internet. Many question logs use syndication such as RSS as a means of conveying answers to questions.
By media type
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog, or one comprising photos is called a photoblog. Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumbleblogs. Blogs that are written on typewriters and then scanned are called typecast or typecast blogs; see typecasting (blogging)
A rare type of blog hosted on the Gopher Protocol is known as a Phlog.
By device
Blogs can also be defined by which type of device is used to compose it. A blog written by a mobile device like a mobile phone or PDA could be called a moblog. One early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a person's personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and Eye Tap device to a web site. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to a sousveillance.. Such journals have been used as evidence in legal matters.[citation needed]
By genre.
Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs, house blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs (often referred to as a blawgs) or dreamlogs. While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a Splog.

Community and cataloging
The Blogosphere
The collective community of all blogs is known as the blogosphere. Since all blogs are on the internet by definition, they may be seen as interconnected and socially networked, through blogrolls, comments, linkbacks (refbacks, trackbacks or pingbacks) and backlinks. Discussions "in the blogosphere" have been used by the media as a gauge of public opinion on various issues. A collection of local blogs is sometimes referred to as a bloghood.
Blog search engines
Several blog search engines are used to search blog contents, such as Bloglines, BlogScope, and Technorati. Technorati, which is among the most popular blog search engines, provides current information on both popular searches and tags used to categorize blog postings. Research community is working on going beyond simple keyword search, by inventing new ways to navigate through huge amounts of information present in the blogosphere, as demonstrated by projects like BlogScope.[citation needed]
Blogging communities and directories
Several online communities exist that connect people to blogs and bloggers to other bloggers, including BlogCatalog, MyBlogLog, and YULBlog, a combination online and offline community for people with blogs based in Montreal.
Blogging and advertising
It is common for blogs to feature advertisements either to financially benefit the blogger or to promote the blogger's favorite causes. The popularity of blogs has also given rise to "fake blogs" in which a company will create a fictional blog as a marketing tool to promote a product.

Popularity
Researchers have analyzed the dynamics of how blogs become popular. There are essentially two measures of this: popularity through citations, as well as popularity through affiliation (i.e. blogroll). The basic conclusion from studies of the structure of blogs is that while it takes time for a blog to become popular through blogrolls, permalinks can boost popularity more quickly, and are perhaps more indicative of popularity and authority than blogrolls, since they denote that people are actually reading the blog's content and deem it valuable or noteworthy in specific cases
The blogdex project was launched by researchers in the MIT Media Lab to crawl the Web and gather data from thousands of blogs in order to investigate their social properties. It gathered this information for over 4 years, and autonomously tracked the most contagious information spreading in the blog community, ranking it by recency and popularity. It can therefore be considered the first instantiation of a memetracker. The project is no longer active, but a similar function is now served by tailrank.com.
Blogs are given rankings by Technorati based on the number of incoming links and Alexa Internet based on the Web hits of Alexa Toolbar users. In August 2006, Technorati found that the most linked-to blog on the internet was that of Chinese actress Xu Jinglei.[13] Chinese media Xinhua reported that this blog received more than 50 million page views, claiming it to be the most popular blog in the world. Technorati rated Boing Boing to be the most-read group-written blog.
Gartner forecasts that blogging will peak in 2007, leveling off when the number of writers who maintain a personal Web site reaches 100 million. Gartner analysts expect that the novelty value of the medium will wear off as most people who are interested in the phenomenon have checked it out, and new bloggers will offset the number of writers who abandon their creation out of boredom. The firm estimates that there are more than 200 million former bloggers who have ceased posting to their online diaries, creating an exponential rise in the amount of "dotsam" and "netsam" — that is to say, unwanted objects on the Web (analogous to flotsam and jetsam).

Blurring with the mass media
Many bloggers, particularly those engaged in participatory journalism, differentiate themselves from the mainstream media, while others are members of that media working through a different channel. Some institutions see blogging as a means of "getting around the filter" and pushing messages directly to the public. Some critics worry that bloggers respect neither copyright nor the role of the mass media in presenting society with credible news. Bloggers and other contributors to user-generated content are behind Time magazine naming their 2006 person of the year as "you".
Many mainstream journalists, meanwhile, write their own blogs — well over 300, according to CyberJournalist.net's J-blog list. The first known use of a blog on a news site was in August 1998, when Jonathan Dube of The Charlotte Observer published one chronicling Hurricane Bonnie.
Some bloggers have moved over to other media. The following bloggers (and others) have appeared on radio and television: Duncan Black (known widely by his pseudonym, Atrios), Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit), Markos Moulitsas Zúniga (Daily Kos), Alex Steffen (Worldchanging) and Ana Marie Cox (Wonkette). In counterpoint, Hugh Hewitt exemplifies a mass-media personality who has moved in the other direction, adding to his reach in "old media" by being an influential blogger. Equally many established authors, for example Mitzi Szereto have started using Blogs to not only update fans on their current works but also to expand into new areas of writing.
Blogs have also had an influence on minority languages, bringing together scattered speakers and learners; this is particularly so with blogs in Gaelic languages. Minority language publishing (which may lack economic feasibility) can find its audience through inexpensive blogging.
There are many examples of bloggers who have published books based on their blogs, e.g., Salam Pax, Ellen Simonetti, Jessica Cutler, ScrappleFace. Blog-based books have been given the name blook. A prize for the best blog-based book was initiated in 2005, the Lulu Blooker Prize. However, success has been elusive offline, with many of these books not selling as well as their blogs. Only blogger Tucker Max cracked the New York Times Bestseller List.argest environmental portals.
Early blogs were simply manually updated components of common Web sites. However, the evolution of tools to facilitate the production and maintenance of Web articles posted in reverse chronological order made the publishing process feasible to a much larger, less technical, population. Ultimately, this resulted in the distinct class of online publishing that produces blogs we recognize today. For instance, the use of some sort of browser-based software is now a typical aspect of "blogging". Blogs can be hosted by dedicated blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software, or on regular web hosting services.

Rise in popularity
After a slow start, blogging rapidly gained in popularity. Blog usage spread during 1999 and the years following, being further popularized by the near-simultaneous arrival of the first hosted blog tools:
Open Diary launched in October 1998, soon growing to thousands of online diaries. Open Diary innovated the reader comment, becoming the first blog community where readers could add comments to other writers' blog entries.
