Choosing the right keywords

This may be the most difficult part of your journey, especially if you don’t fit the target profile. That is, picking the keywords they will use to find your site. You can start by using free tools like Yahoo!s keyword suggestion tool. It gives you a good place to start picking keywords.Start with a phrase you know your site is about (i.e. if you sell widgets, then simply put “widgets” in the search box). The tool will then not only spit out other related words, but also the search volumes associated with each for the previous month.A word of caution however: Sometimes, depending on when you use the tool, the search volumes are from a couple months ago. So if your product is seasonal based, the numbers may actually be lower or higher than represented.Don’t be afraid to get a few hundred words to start. Remember, right now you are just gathering ideas – phrases that could drive traffic to your site. They aren’t all necessarily being used by your target customer. You can also go to Google’s Adwords site and perform the above steps. Start with a phrase or two which describe your site or product and use Google’s suggestion tool to help expand your list.At this point you want as many phrases on your list as possible. Don’t worry, you will cull the list pretty quickly.Once you have a huge list of words, the next place to go is a site like Wordtracker, which has a keyword analysis tool. This tool can be used for a one time fee, or if it’s something you might want to return to you can purchase a subscription. It is a fairly simple tool to use and will give you a good idea of just how likely your site will be able to compete for a phrase.A warning about Wordtracker: The software uses search volumes from some fairly minor sites such as Dogpile, so the estimates could be a little skewed. But again, unless you deal with an SEO firm that has their own proprietary software, this is about your best alternative.

What’s the big deal about blogging?

Not too long ago “blog” wasn’t even a word. Then it seemed over night blogging became an obsession. Lots of people jumped on the blog band wagon. Some people thought this was just a fad which would disappear, but it didn’t. Some people resisted blogging and couldn’t figure out what the big deal was…then they eventually understood and started blogging themself.

The reason why blogs are great is because the content is fresh and often updated, it’s easy so anyone can do it, and search engines love blogs. It’s easier to get search engine traffic from blogs than it is websites. This is because of the constant content updates.

A blog can be for personal or business reasons. Some blogs are monetized, while others just want to blog and don’t care about bothering with trying to make money from it. Some people blog simply because they want to. They want to share their opinions or write about what’s going on in their life, kind of like an online journal. A Mom may start a blog just to write about the trials and rewards, the good and the bad of motherhood. She may give advice on parenting and just write about what’s going on with her kids.

A politically active person may blog on politics, trying to persuade people to vote a certain way. A blogger from a certain city may blog about events happening in their area and an investment blog will inform people on investment opportunities and give investment advice. Some blogs are set up to review certain types of products trying to persuade the reader to buy certain products and of course will contain affiliate links so the reader may purchase them.

Basically a blog can be just about anything and anyone can start one for any reason.

There are a few different ways to monetize a blog. 1-Pay Per Click ads such as google adsense or Yahoo. 2- Text Link ads. 3- Selling links for other blogs and websites. 4- Affiliate ads. 5- Paid blog posts.

If your blog gets a certain amount of traffic, there are companies that pay bloggers to write a post. So if you have a blog in a certain niche, a website in that niche will pay you to blog about their website/product/service. Some bloggers are getting paid hundreds a month just writing blog entries.

There are many free blog sites out there you can sign up for. Blogger.com, owned by Google and is one of the most popular. There is also blogspot.com. You can also do a search for blogs and see all the listings that appear. If your blog is going to be professional however, it’s recommended you get your own domain and hosting and install wordpress blogging software.

To improve traffic to your blog, try to exchange links with other blogs. Also to get readers to keep returning to your blog, plus for better search engine rankings, you need to update your blog regularly. Don’t add a new post every month or every 2 weeks.

Comment Here If You Want A In Depth Blog Review

I have decided it is time to not only talk about ‘Stand Out’ blogging from a hypothetical perspective, but to take real blogs, with real bloggers and do a full analysis of what they do right and what they can improve on. This will not only benefit the owner of the blog, but it will be a great opportunity for all our readers to learn how their blog can be improved also.

I Am Planning On Reviewing A New Blog Every Week!
Starting with a four week trial to test the results of the reviews. Especially your comments on whether you like it. I think this is a great way for me to give back to you, my readers, something that is valuable and will help improve your blogging.

What Areas Of The Blog Will Be Reviewed?
Great question. I will be looking at the blog as a whole, starting with an introduction of the blog explaining a little bit of background information. Then I will start looking at the pros and cons of the following key areas:

Target Market
We will take a look at exactly who this blog is targeted at. This needs to be identified if we are to correctly analyse the following four areas.
Design & Branding
Here we will spend some time looking at the blogs theme and logo as well as how brandable their blog currently is and what they can do to improve it.
Content
Content is king, as everyone says, so we will spend some time analyzing the content of the blog, posts and pages, and the based on the target market of the blog see what can be done to improve conversion of visitors to subscribers and subscribers to raving fans.
Marketing/Networking
How active is this blogger in their niche? This is what we will tackle in this section. We will look at the bloggers current marketing and networking efforts to see how they can increase awareness of their blog in an efficient manner.
Monetization
What is being done to make money from this blog? And how can the monthly income generated from this blog be improved? We will look at ways to optimize revenue and increase the blogs earnings.

Be Prepared For Criticism
I am a big believer in constructive criticism, however I am a positive person and love to focus on the good things, as well as the ways that good things can come from current bad situations. However, my readers may not be so kind, so be prepared a chain of readers opinions

Tips to Increase Your Adsense Revenue

The brain trust over at Google has come up with a little wacky, off-the-wall idea about Internet ads. Make them less annoying.

No, that’s it. That’s the whole plan. Seems like someone should have thought of that one a little earlier.

But bloggers can cash in with Google’s AdSense network. Instead of posting blinking lights, cheap animation and a bobbing and bouncing monkey (or the paper football, although I totally rock at that one) Google matches vertical or horizontal blocks of text with the content of the web page. The ads don’t blink or jump around. Instead, they match or relate to the topic at hand, so the reader isn’t seized with the immediate need to get it off the screen right now no matter what it costs.

Traffic goes up, income goes up. Making money on the Internet - it may be the World Wide Web’s Holy Grail. Still, despite the simplicity, there are several steps savvy bloggers can take to give AdSense added oomph.

Here are some other almost obvious tips:

* Don’t make it boring. Boring equals bad. More importantly, boring drives readers away in two clicks. No one wants to read for three days straight why organizing your closet via season, not color, makes sense. Try to keep content fresh and continually updated. The more often people check in to see what else is going on in your world, the more often you hear cha-ching. Wash-rinse-repeat a few times, and you have created a loyal and happy reader.

* Make it easy to read. People cannot read blue text on a black screen! Keeping the layout simple and clean is the easiest way not to screw anything up. A general rule calls for placing an advertisement “above the fold,” or in place on the first portion of the screen before any scrolling is required.

* Think about ad placement. Don’t try to squish a horizontal advertisement into a vertical one. Google provides plenty of ad options from including a link to placing an ad in the middle of some text so no need exists to use the wrong ad. If you don’t know what size to make an idea, going too wide will look the best.

* Listen to your readers. Most of them are not to hesitant to give an honest opinion of a new advertisement type or content or anything else for that matter. If moving all your ads to the bottom of a rambling ode to your dead parakeet causes income to crash, then, well, maybe you shouldn’t do that. Consider making small, gradual changes and watching your traffic numbers.
* Remember why you started blogging. Bloggers blog for fun, for release, for a creative jolt and any other number of reasons. But, usually, not because the idea of sitting at the computer makes them think of a dentists’ drill. If it stops being fun for you, your readers will likely realize it. And who wants to be around that guy? If you find your self in a slump, give yourself permission to take a day or two off. Then, think about why you do this and what you want out of it. Plus, it’s totally an addiction, so after a day or two you will be itching to get back.

Just because it took surfers years to almost literally rising up in arms against pop ad is no reason your blog can’t start earning money now. Follow these tips and let Google’s AdSense do most of the work.

Five Ways to make Passive Income on your site

This is not the first time I have talked about these different forms of revenue but I always like to revisit the list. This time I also decided to list the pro’s and con’s along with companies who provide the services.
Affiliates -
Positives - Tons of Money, tools to get creative.
Negative - Most people do not trust Affiliate companies to pay out. In a recent poll conducted here of 730 people 58% voted they did not trust their affiliate company. I think this is due to a lack of transparency but I think we will have another poll soon to dive more into this.Popular Companies: AzoogleAds, Commission Junction, CPA Empire, Max Bounty, XY7, share a sale, performics , linkshare
Skill Level To Implement - High skill required and a lot of imagination . Everyone one of the affiliate marketers I know doing over 1M/year in profit are great programmers and also very creative. To reach the top level of this monetization method you will need to learn how to deal with datafeeds and APIs
Contextual -
Positive - Easy to implement and setup. Cut and paste code.
Negative- Little editorial control for you, money can be hit or miss, hard for a site to start with contextual advertising because users have to leave for you to get paid.
Popular Companies - Google Adsense, Yahoo Publisher Network, Chitika
Skill Level To Implement - A monkey can cut and paste code with contextual advertising where the real sauce is is creative implementation.
Subscription -
Positive - Implementation is pretty easy.
Negative- Takes a while for income to build up. It can take a while to find the right pricepoint and length
Popular Companies - Paypal ccbill
Skill Level To Implement - Medium skill required. Most forums have subscription integration for quick and easy setup.
Direct Ad Sales -
Positive - Highest payouts generally
Negative- You have to deal with people… hunting them down to pay there bills.
Skill Level To Implement - Easy.
Donations
100% profit
none
Skill Level To Implement - Easy.

CCleaner 2.0 Decrapifies Your PC

CCleaner 2.0 for your PC is a good computer tip it will make your blogging easier because your computer will run better.
Windows only: One of our favorite PC cleansers CCleaner (which stands for "Crap Cleaner") saw an upgrade this week. Since the last time we mentioned CCleaner several new versions have come out; this week's added support for the Firefox 3 beta plus performance improvements and bug fixes. CCleaner scans your PC for unnecessary temporary and log files, cookies, memory dumps, and more and wipes them out at the press of the "Run Cleaner" button. You might be surprised at how much disk space it can recover—in fact, it managed to clear out 1.6GB of crap from my PC. See screenshot evidence after the jump.
CCleaner also includes a registry scanner, startup manager, and Add/Remove Programs area to uninstall applications you don't use anymore. CCleaner 2.0 is a free download for Windows only.

Do not link with "Click Here"

Do a Google search for click here. What you’ll find is around 1.7 billion (yes billion) instances in Google’s database where website owners have used “click here” as linked text on their website. Let me guess, that includes you, right? I know I do it often without thinking
But click here is seldom the best option for linked text. Take a look at these two examples:
To find out more about how I can help you grow your business, click here or
Find out more about how I can help you grow your business. Which link tells you, as the site’s visitor, where you’ll go when you click the link? Isn’t it clearer in the second example that the link will lead you to how I can help you grow your business?
This may seem like splitting hairs a bit. But really, it’s not. Here are reasons to use descriptive linked text rather than click here: Clarity - Descriptive linked text makes it much clearer where the link will you while click here basically just offers the command - click here. There’s no real clarity of why you’d click here or where you’ll end up.
1.7 billion instances on websites that are using click here. Is that really what they’re hoping to rank for?
Readability - Isn’t it simply nicer to read content where the links have been crafted into the content rather than breaking it up with the old click here?
I suggest, however, not making a habit out of it. Use terms like ‘click to continue’ or ‘read on’ sparingly and only when you really need too. Otherwise, let your visitors know where they’re heading when then select a link.
So, how are you using click here. And what’s your overall in content link strategy?

Something to Think About

At times I will post about other topics that I think might be of interest to you after all its not all about codes, gagets, and blogging tips, not here anyway now and then I will Post some random topics and here is one that really interest me because of the high price of gas........................... Here is another idea that will help stop high prices at the gas pumps.. kindly reminder . Many of us remember what happened when we Boycott .. as a united force .. KMart was put on the knees when conservatives refused to buy from them while they had smut on the shelves in plain site that our impressionable young children had access to? They almost went out of business until they sold waldenbooks their book department .. WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON--Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it.It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Here is the companies that sell Saudi oil These companies import Middle Eastern oil : Shell........................... 205,742,000 barrelsChevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrelsMarathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrelsAmoco...........................62,231,000 barrels Citgo......................from Venezuela , from a Dictator who hates Americans, nationalized (stole) the US companies that discovered, drilled for, extracted and refined the oil.......................................................................................................................................................... Here are some large companies thatDO NOT import Middle Eastern oil! Do THIS, instead: Sunoco...................0 barrelsConoco..................0 barrelsSinclair................0 barrelsBP/Phillips............0 barrels Hess.......................0 barrelsARC0....................0 barrelsAll of this information is available from the Department of Energy; each company is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions !Here is how to do this .. just send the above information to as many people as you can telling them your findings go through your contact list and send out emails, or write Posts about this...................... Looking for Free Ways to Market Your website

Include your URL in your e-mail signature block
E-mail programs allow you to create a signature block that appears on every e-mail you send. In addition to your name, title, company name, address, phone number, and fax number, include your five-to-seven word marketing tag and a link to your Web site. If you use the format http://www.YourDomain.com, the text automatically becomes a link in outgoing mail.
Conduct a link campaign
Inbound links from other Web sites not only bring you targeted traffic from other sites but also can improve your ranking in Google's search results. This is a time-consuming but free method of bringing high-quality visitors to your site.

Ping your Blog! Ping! Ping! Ping! Helps your Blog

You’re a blogger and are constantly hearing about pinging. The thing is, you don't know what it is and what it can do for your blog. Well that's fine because a lot of bloggers don't quite understand pinging. In this newsletter, we will explain what pinging is, how it helps your blog, and what the best pinging services are. After you've read this newsletter, you'll know exactly how to use pinging to make your blog popular. What is pinging? When a blog is pinged, it essentially tells a web blog tracking system that the blog has been updated. Thus, pinging is the process of telling tracking services that a site has been updated. So how does pinging work? Well, a ping service scans regularly blogs for updates. Whenever there is a new update for a particular blog, that is reported back to the pinging service’s site. You can almost think of ping services being just like search engine spiders—both scan sites looking for information, and both report that information back to their specific site. The difference is, a ping service only reports back new blog posts. Why is pinging useful for my blog? Pinging, in effect, tells people that there is a new blog posting available. Those who are loyal followers of your blog will see the ping and want to visit your blog. Those who haven’t read your blog before will see the ping and perhaps think “hey, there’s a new blog I haven’t been to before, I think I’ll check it out”. Pinging helps to increase your traffic because it tells people when your blog is updated. Those who visit sites with pinging services will see this information in the form of a scroll on the left or right side, or top of the page. The scroll is usually in XML format and typically includes the title and URL of your blog, as well as the date and time of the update. OK, so now I know what pinging is. Who offers pinging? The answer is, there are several pinging services available which you can use to have your blog pinged. We’ll go over some of them right now. Weblogs.com Weblogs.com is probably the most well-known pinging service. Weblogs.com monitors sites for updates and then pings whenever there is an update to report. Virtually every blog software is available to use Weblogs. Yahoo’s Blo.gs Another popular pinging service. This one is offered by Yahoo and has a built-in integration with movable type and other tools. One cool thing about this service is that it offers the ability to give out updates via Instant Messenging services like AOL and ICQ. It is a direct pinging service, so those who sign up for subscriptions to your blog will be sent an email anytime your blog is updated. Blogrolling.com Blogrolling allows its bloggers to manage their blogrolls (updates) through a web-based interface. Recently updated blogs are also highlighted on Blogrolling’s web site. Data is automatically retrieved from other sites like blogger.com and weblogs.com every 5 minutes. Often times your blog is already being pinged by Blogrolling, so you might not have to sign up for it. Search on the site first for your URL before signing it up. Technorati Available at http://technorati.com/developers/ping/, Technorati is another service that pings blogs. It gets its data from a variety of places and is definitely a site you should go to for blog pinging. These are just 4 of the many different blog pinging services available. A quick search on Yahoo or Google will reveal many other possible blog pinging services to use for your blog. It is best to sign up for as many as you possibly can to ensure that your blog is well-pinged. A well-pinged blog will definitely help your blog attract more visitors. So sign up for as many as possible and watch your blog traffic increase. Pinging tells people when your blog is updated. It is an incredibly useful, and easy to sign up for service, so be sure to sign your blog up for pinging!

Blogging tips on How to Improve your Blogs Ranking?

Many advertising programs still place significant weight on Alexa rank. Naturally if you are part of any of these programs you will want to improve your rank to maximize your earnings. Or if you’re like me you do it for the pleasure of seeing your rank improve.
The three most common and effective ways of improving your Alexa Rank are the widget, the toolbar, and redirects. However there is another way to improve your rank that I haven’t seen discussed.
First, this is the explanation the Alexa FAQ gives for how rank is determined:
A site’s ranking is based on a combined measure of reach and pageviews. Reach is determined by the number of unique Alexa users who visit a site on a given day. Pageviews are the total number of Alexa user URL requests for a site. However, multiple requests for the same URL on the same day by the same user are counted as a single pageview.
I had always assumed Alexa rank was based purely on unique visits, but it would appear pageviews are also a significant factor.

Forget 10 tips to generate traffic to your sites. These FOUR Tips will do it!!

Building quality backlinks is an important to improve your blog, or website for that matter.
It is important process for the success or failure of a site.
What is a backlink?A backlink is a link from another website to yours.
Why do I need backlinks? Backlinks are important for a number of reasons:
They can increase traffic to your website.
They are an important factor when Google assigns Page Rank.
They help to improve your ranking on search engine results pages.
Submitting your sites to directories can be used to build backlinks.
Directory Submission
Submitting your blog to directories should be one of the first things you do to kickstart your link building efforts.
It is unlikely you’ll ever see any significant traffic from directories, but that’s okay. The purpose here is to gain backlinks to help increase your PageRank.
There are both general directories and blog specific directories. Seeing as this process can be quite monotonous I’d suggest starting with the blog specific directories and if you don’t run out of steam move on to the general directories afterwards.
Note: Make sure you only submit to directories with high PageRank.
Alot of directories require a reciprocal link, meaning they will only list you in their directory if you link back to them from your blog. It is generally better to stay away from these sorts of directories.
Here are a few directory lists to get you started:
Blog Directories
General Directories
Free SEO Friendly Directories
High PageRank/Non-Reciprocal Directories
For those of you who would rather not plug away at their computers all day you can find plenty of people on the Digital Point forums who offer directory submission services. It comes at a price of course, but most of them are pretty reasonable.
